LIP TREATMENT

Lips need to suit your face and for a good treatment I may need to treat the area around the mouth.

Lips collapse with age, strengthening the top lip with subtle enhancement can improve the overall appearance of the lower part of the face.

There are two types of results to be achieved: lip enhancement and lip rejuvenation (lipstick bleed lines and drooping corners). In both cases you may need to have more than one type of treatment to get the result you are looking for.

  • Lip line with RESTYLANE
  • Lip augmentation with RESTYLANE and/or PERLANE

The injected crystal-clear NASHA gel gives natural volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out.

Lips are subject to swelling and more prone to bruising. If it is your first treatment, I would advice that you find a quiet time in your diary as the swelling after the treatment can last for 2-3 days. Please refer to the links on the right for pre- and post-treatment advice pages and recovery time indications.

The initial treatment is usually maintained with occasional follow-up treatments.

OTHER TREATMENTS

PERLANE is intended for shaping the contours of the face, e.g. the cheeks.

When shaping the contours of the face the crystal-clear NASHA gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts. A treatment takes a few minutes and the results can be seen immediately.

A touch-up treatment within 2-4 weeks after the initial treatment may be necessary to achieve an optimal correction.

How long will a treatment last?

PERLANE is long lasting but not permanent You always have a choice to continue or change the combination of treatments - and the procedure can be repeated as often as you like.

Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment 6 to 12 months after an initial treatment of wrinkles. When the lips have been treated a follow-up treatment is normally needed after about 6 months.

A touch-up treatment within 2-4 weeks after the initial treatment may be necessary to achieve an optimal correction.

Clinical experience indicates that follow-up treatment normally require a smaller amount of the product.

PRE-TREATMENT advice

  1. Pregnancy and breast feeding are contra-indications to treatment.
  2. Alcohol intake should be reduced at least 24 hours before treatment.
  3. Medication such as aspirin may cause bruising as will high doses of vitamin E.
  4. Treatment cannot be performed until ceasing Accutane medication for 6 months.
  5. Sun beds, waxing, electrolysis and laser should be avoided at least 48 hours before treatment.
  6. Pain sensitivity may be heightened at certain times (pre-menstrual or following excessive alcohol intake)
  7. Bruising may be reduced by taking Arnica tablets two days before treatment.
  8. Risk of cold sores may be reduced by the use of Zovirax® tablets.

The above are some commonly asked questions before treatment.

POST-TREATMENT advice

Immediately after the treatment with PERLANE there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. If the inconvenience continues or if other reactions occur, please contact your physician.

The treated area should be massaged gently for 30 seconds morning and night for 2 to 3 days.

The initial swelling after treatment may last longer. Some patients experience swelling for about a week. This means that the result directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result.

Avoid touching the treated area 6 hours after the treatment. After that the area can be gently washed with soap and water and light make-up can be applied.

Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. solarium and sunbathing) or extreme cold.

If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores.

If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

PERLANE contains the body's own natural material, hyaluronic acid.
