BOTOX® Post-Treatment Advice
The following precautions are to be observed following the injection of BOTOX®
- Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do not shampoo the hair or have a scalp massage.
- Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do not wear anything tight on the head (hats, caps, hair bands etc.)
- Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do not lie on the treated area.
- Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do not apply pressure
when cleansing the skin
Do use only gentle upward strokes. - Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do avoid leaning forward and bobbing up and down (cleaning, which may involve a lot of bending, clothes shopping in dressing and undressing)
- Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do not have a facial massage or treatment of any kind.
- Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do not take any form of exercise or yoga.
- Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do not take any aspirin or drugs containing aspirin.
- Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do not take vitamin E or consume alcohol.
- Immediately following the injection of BOTOX® do not take long haul flights for 24 hours
These precautions limit the spread of the BOTOX® from the site of injection.
BOTOX® Treatment Possible Side Effects
There are several possible side effects of BOTOX®, but are minimal.
There may be a mild stinging sensation as the BOTOX® injection is performed.
Mild weakness or paralysis of the eyelid (ptosis) or brow may occur with drooping of the eyelid or brow, lasting usually 2-3 weeks. This is temporary and may not even be noticed by the patient. The incidence of ptosis after a BOTOX® treatment is approximately 2%.
The other side effects from the BOTOX® treatment include transient headache, numbness or bruising, which are uncommon.
Advantages of the BOTOX® Treatment
BOTOX® is an effective treatment for frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines.
Side effects are uncommon and minimal.
